The new Summer 24 Academy collection has arrived.

The Summer 24 Sassoon Academy collection has arrived and we are excited to be offering four new collection step-by-steps techniques from the new collection, available at Sassoon Online

The Summer collection 2024 from Vidal Sassoon finds the team in a gothic, dark and moody vibe. Following on from the poetic romance of the modern pre-Raphaelites that were showcased in the Rouge collection for Spring, these new looks have their roots in a Victorian gothic fantasy, a made up world where nostalgia-crazed kids escape into vintage style. Their experimental spirit becomes part of their look and identity, which is make believe and theatrical in a black on black manifesto with austere silhouettes and breathtaking subtleties.

Victorian performers, exotic dancers and circus entertainers in their ‘costumes’ are all referenced in the mood of the imagery for the collection as well as the styling and make up. Gothic, Steampunk inspired clothing layers corsets over sportswear. Nighties and negligee incorporate biker style leathers. A hint of pirate with layers of chains, frilled shirts, waistcoats and buckled shoes, even taking inspiration from ancient history. It’s all about charity shop discoveries! Make up is theatrical and experimental, metallics, bleached brows, contrasting textures. a high gloss lip or a smudged eye. A Sassoon muse is one that doesn’t fit into the typical ‘muse’ stereotype.

CUTTING TECHNIQUE

One of the key features of the looks this season are the outlines, which have become the main expression for this collection. Lace in its patterns, delicacy and beauty finds its way into the edges of the looks and provides inspiration for the detailed edge of the haircuts, which are intricately constructed with the use of unique sectioning patterns. Bespoke effects are created without the sometimes aggressive approach of excessive pointing and the outlines are bordered, decorated and accentuated to reveal their beauty, creating something weird and wonderful, delightfully intriguing.

COLOUR TECHNIQUE

The colours for this seasons collection take their inspiration from early 1900’s fashion accessories, veils and fans with floral accents, also the work of Irving Penn, showing the beauty of flowers in their stages of life.

Blonde and black are heavily featured along with accents of steel grey, navy blue and charcoal. The methods of application are classic, slices, two tone and singles all feature. It’s the subtly different placement that provides the innovative effect and the newness.  It is a sombre palette, redolent of the work of French artist Pierre Soulages and just as visually exciting.
